What’s Most Important To Me Over All….

What’s most important to me over all is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He died a horrific death on the cross for me so that I can have eternal life with Him in a beautiful place called Heaven.  He made this promise to us that if we only believe in Him and trust in Him as our Saviour, that we can be saved from a horrible eternity in Hell.  After He died on the cross, He arose again and ascended into Heaven and gave us the Holy Spirit to help guide us while we are on this earth.

Why is it so hard for some people to believe in Him, when they will instead believe in UFO’s and aliens, and supernatural, and psychics and all that stuff?  You can’t imagine, unless you are a Christian already, the wonderful peace you feel in your heart when you believe in Him.  I’m not saying that Christians don’t have problems and worries, but we also have an unexplainable peace that you can only get when you trust in Jesus.  It’s really not that hard….give it a try.

My honey has a wonderful blog that explains so much about all of this….and you can just ask me or him or any Bible believing church if you have any questions….check out Rob’s blog called “Settled In Heaven” for more information on trusting in Jesus and living in His Word.

Promotion, Promotion, Promotion…..UGH!

I’m a fine artist….digital artist…..photographer…..jewelry artist…..gardener…..don’t you think that I have enough to do…..and then add in daughter, wife, friend….mother….Christian…and the list goes on.   I’m not trying to sound harsh or anything, but don’t you think I have enough to do besides being an advertiser, salesperson, blogger, small business data entry person…the list goes on…….I HATE PROMOTION!!!

WELL,  now that I got THAT off my chest!!!!   It’s just so hard for people who aren’t salespeople, to be salespeople…..I want to sell my stuff, but it just gets crazy sometimes……create the item (the part I enjoy)….add it to your online store (not my favorite, but I’ll survive)….twitter it…..twitter it….twitter it again…..facebook it…..blog it…..and on and on…..the list seems so endless!   I’m just a shameless complainer 😀

Well, do a girl a favor and check out my stuff here Bohemian Ice Artisan Jewelry and here Alive With Color (art and photography…still adding to this one)…..thanks….that feels better 🙂

Gardening and Photography…Two Arts That Go Together

Did I ever tell you that I love to garden…..everything about it….the planting…the planning….the pruning….the clipping….the fertilizing…the photographing….yes, I consider gardening and photography two of the most rewarding arts…and arts that compliment each other.  They even tie into my painting and digital art….I just love flowers and nature…love the outdoors.  All of the beautiful God created colors.  I guess that’s why you can probably categorize most of my art in the nature category.

Back in late March during on unusually warm day, I just needed to be outside in the beautiful day, so I decided that day to prune all of my rose bushes.  Boy, am I glad I did that.  All of the rose bushes must have loved it….they are all out doing themselves now with abundant flowers.  I have never had this many roses in bloom…guess they liked being pruned in late winter.  The above photo is from the pale pink rosebush that is next to my back deck.  These roses start out a darker pink when they are just budding and slowly turn paler and paler as they open up….so pretty.

Well, I just added 3 of my newest rose photos to my “Alive With Color” Etsy.   Check them out and let me know what you think 🙂

Freshwater Pearls are the Bomb!

As a jewelry artist, next to Swarovski Crystal, freshwater pearls are my favorite to work with….when making a piece of jewelry with them, it’s like instant gratification seeing how nice the piece is turning out.  Pearls are so classic and beautiful.  They go with everything.

I just finished a necklace and earring set done in green freshwater pearls and unakite (a green and brick colored gemstone) and I’ve just posted them for sale in my etsy store “Bohemian Ice.”  The earrings are gold-plated (earwires & dangle) and the toggle on the necklace is gold-plated also.  I always try to use quality materials in all of my creations, and that includes jewelry, painting, photography, etc.

Here’s the links to the necklace http://www.etsy.com/listing/49738703/green-freshwater-pearl-and-unakite  and the earrings  http://www.etsy.com/listing/49737907/green-freshwater-pearl-and-unakite?ref=v1_other_2

A Jewelry Artists Review – “Bead Stoppers”

I’ve decided that periodically, as I come across some item or tool that can help a fellow artist, I’m going to blog my opinion on that particular item or tool.  I’m not expecting everyone in the world to agree with my reviews, but it’ll just be my personal opinion on something that I feel works well or helps a creative person in what they do.  If it helps you, GREAT!  I’m glad to help someone.

Today I’m going to tell you about the greatest little tool that a jewelry artist can have…they’re called “bead stoppers.”  These little spring-like things are great to use when you are a clutze like I am and you are stringing beads.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worked on a necklace and had gotten it close to done and mistakenly dropped the wire and a thousand beads fall and scatter all over the floor.  What frustration!!!

These little helpers are an essential tool for any jewelry artist….I would almost bet that anyone could come up with at least one use for these other than holding your beads on the wire.  I can think of one right now….as someone who paints, I can see using one to hold your photograph to your work area or easel.  They come in two sizes and several to a pack….see here  http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H203873BS  and  http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H203287BS  .  There is also a how-to video on the Fire Mountain website  http://www.firemountaingems.com/beading_howtos/beading_projects.asp?docid=9731  .   Watch this video, they tell you all about the different ways to use these tiny helpers.

Is It Art?

Art….it’s beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  What one person may consider art, may not be considered art to another.  This fact becomes very real to you if you ever entered an exhibit.  Sometimes you may think that the judge of the exhibit has a real handle on what works are deserving of a ribbon…..and then there are the times when you may think to yourself, “What was the judge thinking?”  Well, I’ve learned, just as probably most artists have learned, that your artwork may not please everyone all the time.  You can spend hours and hours working on a piece of art, thinking that you’ve done pretty well on this piece…and then the ribbon goes to a piece of work that looks like a Jackson Pollock work, like someone slapped paint on a canvas in a matter of a few minutes.  Don’t get me wrong…I’m not knocking Jackson Pollock or contemporary art, but I bet most artists have felt this way at one time or other.  If you throw paint on a canvas and get someone to promote you, you too can make $2,000. on each painting.  This definitely proves that art is in the eye of the beholder.

No matter what type or style, you can usually tell when someone spends a lot of time and consideration on a piece of art.  I guess, maybe, this is what I look for in art….the time, thought, consideration that was put into it by the artist.  I try to be open-minded when it comes to art….I like most styles, but I like to see when you can tell that the artist really spent time creating and thinking through what they wanted to achieve with their creation.  There are times that you may not totally like that piece of art, but you can still tell that the artist really worked at it, and I appreciate that in itself.

So, we are back to the question…is it art?  This is a question that we all have to answer individually.  For more information on this subject…see ART  and  VISUAL ARTS

Wholesale Beads and Jewelry Making Supplies – Fire Mountain Gems and Beads

Wholesale Beads and Jewelry Making Supplies – Fire Mountain Gems and Beads.

Whether you are a jewelry making novice, who makes jewelry for yourself, or a professional jewelry designer with a shop or small business, you will want to save money by purchasing your tools and supplies wholesale.  It’s amazing how much money you can save when buying wholesale.  In many instances, the way it is done is the more you buy, the more money you save.  For example, the above link is for Fire Mountain Gems, who has increments where if you buy 15 to 49 items, you get the first stage of a discount, and if you  buy 50 to 199 items, you get the next stage of a larger discount and so on.   I must say out of all the jewelry supply companies online, Fire Mountain Gems  is my favorite for one, saving money, two, huge variety of everything you need, and three, excellent shipping (reasonably priced).  They also offer free jewelry instruction and video tutorials.  They’re your one stop shop for everything you need to design and make jewelry.  They frequently have sales too.

Jewelry Supply Company would be my next favorite for their weekly sales and clearance items.  They also have discount levels.  I especially like the variety of pearls that they offer.  I have purchased pearls for wedding jewelry there.  Their items come packed very well and shipping is reasonably quick.  They have DIY projects and videos for free instruction.

There are many other jewelry making companies online and most offer a free catalog and newletter.  It is good to sign up for these, as I feel you are continuously learning new techniques and the newsletter, especially, informs you of upcoming sales.
